Actuated Ball Valves: Pre-packaged and Custom Options
Hayward’s valve actuators can be custom created when ordering an actuated valve and they can also be used to replace existing actuators used on Hayward® or other brand valves. When you are selecting an actuator to be used to replace an existing actuator, it would be best to contact us for confirmation of compatibility with your existing valve; you may need a mounting kit depending upon the design of your existing valve.
Hayward® offers two prepackaged valve/actuator assemblies which are suitable for most applications.
Most customers should initially review the EA Series automated true union ball valves, these are PVC valves having EPDM elastomers with an inexpensive 115 VAC electric actuator (½" to 2" sizes).
If you require FPM seals or a valve body made of CPVC, consider the EAU Series which uses a 115 VAC actuator with pre-wired terminal strip and one auxiliary limit switch.
Custom requirements can be accommodated amongst (6) different electrical and (3) pneumatic actuator models, each having different accessories/options to enable you to "build" the exact actuator that you require.
4" and 6" ball valves and voltages other than 115VAC or for accessories such as position indicators or proportional control require custom configuring an actuator to be used with one of the TB series actuator ready valves. When the actuator is ordered with the valve, assembly is provided for no additional cost.
(The cost factor below is a comparison of the least expensive base unit (=1) compared to more expensive alternatives. For example, the EAU, EPZ and EPM electric actuators are about the same cost. The cost factor of 1 is based upon a value of approximately $200.)
Five Electric Actuator Designs,
EAU, ECP, HRS, HZSN1, and RSR series
The HRS series electric actuators are the "workhorse" or default electric actuator for most industrial applications. Their standard features include non-detachable manual override, conduit entry points, position indicator and externally adjustable mechanical stops. The HZSN1 version is more compact and has fewer features than the HRS.
The other electric actuators are specialized in some way. For example, the EAU series is a low cost, "light duty" actuator for small valves (up to 2"). The ECP is slightly less sophisticated than the HRS series but has a polypropylene enclosure and thus might be a better fit for aggressive environments. The RSR series electric actuator has a mechanical spring return, thus it can be used to "fail open/closed" in the event of a power failure.
Three Pneumatic Actuator Designs, PMD/S, PMD4/S4 and PCD/S series
The PMD/S design is for "light duty" applications whereas the PCD/S series is the standard industrial grade "heavy-duty" design. The PMD4/S4 is typically reserved for highly corrosive applications and environments.
In addition to valve actuators, we can provide related accessories such as battery back-up systems and control stations for electric actuators.
